Wildcats Stung at the Buzzer, Tie Cazenovia 2-2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Wildcats (7-5-3, 7-0-2 NEAC) played to a 2-2 tie for the second game in a row on Saturday, as they played their Wildcat counterpart, Cazenovia College (6-6-3, 5-1-3 NEAC), at the neutral site of SUNY-Morrisville.

SUNYIT scored first in the 32nd minute of the match, as standout Diego Montaleza (New York, NY/ MLK) notched his fifth goal of the year.  The back-and-forth theme of the half continued, however, as Cazenovia evened the score just seven minutes later on a Taras Stashkiv goal.

After scoring just five minutes into the second half on a Ben Toach (New Hartford, NY/ New Hartford) goal, SUNYIT seemed to be in control at 2 to 1. But after holding off the Cazenovia attack for 44 minutes and 35 seconds, junior Tim Hartill broke through for a score to tie the game at 2-2 just seconds before the end of regulation.

Neither overtime served to decide the match, and the Wildcats-two walked away with very different ties: SUNYIT retained the top spot in the conference at 7-0-2, but Cazenovia (5-1-3 NEAC) moved into second as Penn-St Harrisburg (5-2-1 NEAC) fell to Penn St.-Abbington earlier today.

SUNYIT will play a week from today (Saturday, 10/29) at conference foe Keuka College. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
