Men's Soccer Downed by Cross-town Rival Utica, 1-0

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT Men's Soccer Team (5-5-1, 5-0 NEAC) had their four-game win streak snapped last night by non-conference rival Utica (5-4, 0-2 Empire 8). The Pioneers for their part stopped a two-game losing streak.

Pioneer forward Kevin McAllister recorded his team-high sixth goal just 2:47 into the game on an assist by Jonathon Peterson. It was only the second goal allowed by Wildcat keeper Malick Faye in his last five games, but it was all the Pioneers needed as SUNYIT struggled on offense.

"It's always a battle when we play these guys," said Wildcat Coach Pete Jerome.

The physical contest took its toll on SUNYIT, as the Wildcats were issued seven total cards and battled injuries all night.

"Obviously we're going through a tough stretch in terms of staying healthy," said Jerome, "but we have a lot of good players on this team and so our focus is simply on winning the next game."

SUNYIT will travel to Wells College (6-5, 3-2 NEAC) this weekend for a 1:00 pm game on Saturday.
