UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's soccer squad stayed home this weekend and hosted NEAC opponent, the Morrisville State Mustangs.  The Wildcats won the match 2-0, with sophomore midfielder Diego Montaleza (New York, N.Y./MLK) netting both points for the win.

 

Montaleza scored early in the first half, knocking an unassisted ball in the eleventh minute.  The Mustangs tried to answer back, but only put three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.  After the half, both squads posted eight shots on the goal, however in the sixty-fifth minute, Montaleza put away the second and final goal of the afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper, Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y./MLK) was credited with eight saves on the day as well as the win.

 

Freshman forward Chernor Barrie (Bronx, N.Y./Flags) registered two shots in the game while freshman midfielder Joey Plummer (Gates, N.Y./Gates-Chili) attempted five.  In the goal for Morrisville was senior Shane Sullivan (Sherrill, N.Y./VVS/Mohawk Valley) who also posted eight saves for the Mustangs.

 

The Wildcats stay home Tuesday Sep 20th where they will host Hamilton College in a non-conference contest.  The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start at the Wildcat Soccer Fields.
