Men's Soccer Defeats Keuka to Advance to NEAC Championship

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's soccer team is headed to its first-ever NEAC Tournament Championship after defeating Keuka College 1-0 in the tournament semifinals Saturday.  The Wildcats are now 13-5 overall.

Due to unplayable conditions caused by rain at SUNYIT's Wildcat Soccer Field, the game was played at Wehrum Stadium on the campus of Herkimer County Community College, which is now the new site of the tournament.

The Wildcats lone goal came at 14:40 when freshman Josh Kimber (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) sent a cross pass from the right wing to sophomore Matthew Owusu (Brooklyn, NY/Tilden), who sent a header past Keuka's goalie for a score.  The Wildcats were able to outshoot Keuka 12-8 on the day, including eight shots on goal to five.

SUNYIT freshman Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK), who earlier this week was named the NEAC Goalkeeper of the Year, made four saves in the victory, while Keuka goalie Kyle Salo registered seven saves.

The Wildcats will now take on No. 2 seed Penn State Harrisburg in the championships at 5:00 pm tomorrow at Herkimer County Community College.  Harrisburg defeated No. 3 seed Penn State Abington 4-1 today to advance to the title game.
