Men's Soccer Has Four-Game Win Streak Snapped by Clarkson

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's soccer team had its four-game win streak snapped with a 2-0 loss to Clarkson University in non-conference action at the Wildcat Soccer Field Wednesday.  The loss dropped the Wildcats to 6-3 on the year, while Clarkson improved to 6-2-1 overall.

Clarkson took an early lead when David Maiorino found the back of the net at 16:42 off a cross pass from the right wing from Kurt Knolle.  The score would remain 1-0 into intermission.

The Wildcats came out aggressive in the second half, firing off 10 shots as opposed to three for Clarkson, but could not put a goal on the board.  They also had a golden opportunity at the 62-minute mark when they were awarded a penalty kick, but the blast from freshman Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK) would bang off the post and keep SUNYIT from tying the game.  Clarkson would then clinch the victory two minutes later when junior Matt Konecnik sent a cross from the right wing to fellow classmate Tobin Boomer in the box for the second and final goal of the contest.

Faye made three saves on the day for SUNYIT, while Scott Stuart registered seven saves in the win.

The Wildcats will look to rebound this Saturday when they host NEAC rival Penn State Harrisburg at 2:00 pm.
