Montaleza Nets Hat Trick, Men's Soccer Scores Team-Record 10 Goals in Rout of Gallaudet

UTICA, NY – SUNYIT Freshman Diego Montaleza (New York, NY/MLK) scored three of the Wildcats' program-record 10 goals en route to a lopsided 10-0 victory over the team's newest NEAC rival Gallaudet University at the Wildcat Soccer Field Sunday.  With the victory, the Wildcats remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0 and are now 8-3 overall, while Gallaudet falls to 1-4 in the NEAC and 1-9 overall.

SUNYIT broke its previous record of eight goals in one game and tied the program record for points in a game with 24, which were both set during the 2002 season.  The Wildcats dominated the contest, sending 30 shots towards goal while not allowing any for Gallaudet.

Montaleza scored all three of his goals in the first half to record his first career hat trick, with two goals coming off of rebounds in the box and a third coming from a laser he fired on a free kick.  The Wildcats did most of their damage in the first half, adding four more goals, including two from sophomore Chris Staulters (Broadalbin, NY/Galway), one from freshman Joseph Attakora (Brooklyn, NY/Erasmus) and another from sophomore Matthew Owusu (Brooklyn, NY/Tilden).

SUNYIT added three more goals in the second half that came from sophomores Eraldo Marku (Maybrook, NY/Valley Central) and Joe Pfaffenberger (Chester, NY/Warwick Valley) and senior Kevin Nelson (Oneida, NY/Oneida).

The Wildcats have now won two straight contests and will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday, October 9 when they host NEAC rival Wells College.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
