Twumasi Ties All-Time Career Goals Mark as Men's Soccer Defeats Hilbert 3-0

UTICA, NY – SUNYIT senior Daniel Twumasi (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) tied the program record for career goals and helped the Wildcats defeat the visiting Hilbert College Hawks 3-0 in non-conference action at the Wildcat Soccer Field Wednesday.  The Wildcats improved to 3-2 with the victory, while the Hawks fell to 0-5 on the year.

Twumasi scored his record-tying goal with just over a minute left in the contest on a strike from the right wing to put SUNYIT up 2-0 and seal the victory.   It was Twumasi's second goal of the season and 18th of his career, putting him in a tie with Conor McGuigan ('07) for the program's all-time lead in career goals scored.

The Wildcats controlled the ball for most of the contest, outshooting Hilbert 21-3 and winning the corner kick battle 7-1.  SUNYIT put their first score on the board six minutes into the contest when freshman Diego Montaleza (New York, NY/MLK) dribbled through the Hilbert defense and delivered a strike from the top of the box to give SUNYIT a 1-0 lead.

The game would remain that way until late in the second half, as Twumasi would score his goal at 88:46 and sophomore Chris Staulters (Broadalbin, NY/Galway) scored thirty seconds later on a goal that was set up by a side pass out of a free kick by Montaleza.

Hilbert goalkeeper Kamil Cislak kept the Hawks in the game for most of the day, finishing with 12 saves on the day.

The Wildcats will be back in action this Saturday for their first NEAC match of the season when they travel to take on Morrisville State.  The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
