Men's Soccer Falls to St. Lawrence in NCAA First Round

CANTON, NY – The SUNYIT men's soccer team fell to the St. Lawrence University Saints 2-0 Saturday in the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament First Round.  The team finished the year a program-best 13-6-1.  St. Lawrence, ranked seventh in the nation, improved to 17-2-2 overall.

NEAC Goalie of the Year Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK) kept SUNYIT in the game in the first half, coming up with three big saves to keep the game scoreless despite the Wildcats being outshot 10-3 in the half.

The tie would only last three minutes into the second half, as St. Lawrence senior James Stewart scored in the box at 48:24 off a direct kick from Sam DeMello to take a 1-0 lead.  DeMello would set up the Saints' next goal at the 71-minute mark when he sprung junior Dan Marvin up the right sideline, who would then deliver a strike from the far post for the second and final goal of the day.

Faye finished with seven saves on the day, while Nate Goss-Woliner registered two stops in the win for St. Lawrence.
