Men's Soccer Falls to Local Rival Utica College 3-1

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to local rival Utica College in non-conference action at the Wildcat Soccer Field Sunday afternoon.  The Wildcats are now 2-2 overall, while Utica improved to 4-1 on the year.

SUNYIT found itself in a hole early, as Utica scored within the first 90 seconds of action when Roberto Sgueglia put in a header off a direct kick from Kevin McAllister. Utica would make it 2-0 when Jonathon Peterson scored an unassisted goal at 17:40, and it would remain that score until halftime.

The second half remained quiet until Utica sophomore DJ Ilebani scored at 87:28, and SUNYIT would finally put a goal on the board when freshman Mario Gomez (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored on a direct kick at the 89-minute mark, but it would not be enough as Utica took home the victory.

The Wildcats will look to rebound on Wednesday, September 15 when they host Hilbert College at 4:00 pm.
