Men's Soccer Remains Undefeated in NEAC with 2-1 Victory over Wells

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's soccer team remained undefeated in the NEAC with a 2-1 victory over Wells College at the Wildcat Soccer Field Saturday, giving them a 6-0 record in conference play and placing them at 9-3 overall.  Wells fell to 2-3-1 in the NEAC and 4-6-2 overall with the loss.

Wells quickly took the lead in the first half when Justin Rigney punched in goal off a deflection two minutes and thirty five seconds into the contest, and that would prove to be the only score of the half.

The Wildcats were able to tie it up five minutes into the second half when senior Jason Conklin (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) scored on a header off a corner kick delivered by junior Dennis Gyimah (Bronx, NY/Mohawk Valley CC).  Five minutes later, sophomore Chris Staulters (Broadalbin, NY/Galway) would then score his team-best seventh goal of the season on a blast from the top of the box to give SUNYIT a 2-1 lead.  That would prove to be enough as the Wildcats were able to hang on for the victory.

SUNYIT freshman goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK) made three saves and registered his eighth win of the season, while Aaron Brody stopped five shots for Wells.

The Wildcats have now won three straight contests and will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday, October 16 when they travel to take on conference rival SUNY Cobleskill.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
