Men's Soccer Registers Second Straight Double-Overtime Victory with 1-0 Win over Sage

HERKIMER, NY – For the second straight contest, the SUNYIT men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory in double overtime, this time taking down The Sage Colleges in non-conference action Tuesday.  The Wildcats improved to 11-5 overall with the win, while Sage fell to 7-8-1 on the year.

Due to poor field conditions caused by continuous rain, the contest was moved from the Wildcat Soccer Field to Wehrum Stadium on the campus of Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, NY.

Despite outshooting Sage 18-4, it took the Wildcats 106 minutes of action to find the back of the net.  That's when sophomore Eraldo Marku (Maybrook, NY/Valley Central) sent a perfect cross pass from the close left wing to senior Daniel Twumasi (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison), who blasted home his third game-winning goal of the season to give SUNYIT the victory.  It was Twumasi's sixth goal of the year.

SUNYIT freshman goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK) made one save and recorded his sixth shutout of the season, while freshman Carmen Volpe registered eight saves for Sage.

The Wildcats will close out their regular season this Saturday when they host NEAC rival Keuka College at 2:00 pm.  The contest will also mark the team's Senior Day, where the squad will honor its seven seniors with a short ceremony during halftime.
