MLAX: Wildcats Season Ends in the First Round of the NCAA Championship Tournament.

Radnor, PA. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team fell to the Salisbury Sea Gulls in the first round of the 2021 NCAA men's lacrosse tournament 30-3. The first round loss by SUNY Poly, played today at ER Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini University, concludes a historic season for the Wildcats who finish their season with a 10-1 record and the program's first NAC Championship.

 

Entering the game, the Sea Gulls were ranked #1 NCAA Region III rankings. The gulls got off to a hot start scoring twice in the first three minutes. Poly would answer in the first with a Shane Wyman unassisted goal. But Salisbury was overpowering and went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding lead in the second.

 

Salisbury did not let up, outsourcing the Wildcats 14-1 in the second half to earn the win, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

 

GAME NOTES: 

 

  • Salisbury held the advantage in shots (59-7), face-offs (32-5), turnovers (18-30), and groundballs (60-20). 

  • T.J. Ellis registered one save in goal for the Gulls.

  • Matthew Johnson had 11 saves for the Wildcats in their first bid to the NCAA national tournament as representatives of the NAC. He finishes his historic season with a program-best 10-1 record in his first full season with the Wildcats.

  • Edward Rosaschi finished his career with a point on an unassisted goal in the second quarter. 

  • Shane Wyman had the Wildcats two other goals in the game. Both were unassisted. 

  • Robert Pollock had a team-high two caused turnovers for the Wildcats. He also had three groundballs. 

  • Pierre Armstrong led the way for Salisbury with 10 points on four goals and six assists. 

  • Griffin Moroney had seven points on four goals and three assists for Salisbury. 

 

This concludes a historic 2021 season for SUNY Poly, while Salisbury moves on to face the winner of Cabrini vs. Grove City in the second round of the NCAA men's lacrosse championship tournament.
