MLAX: Big Second Half Helps Wildcats Improve to 5-0.

MARCY, N.Y. - The Wildcat men's lacrosse team put together a fantastic second half against non-conference opponent Castleton on Wednesday to improve to 5-0 in their 2021 campaign. SUNY Poly's Shane Wyman (East Greenbush, N.Y.) had his prints all over the game, racking up four points on a pair of goals and two assists. His four-point effort help the Wildcats to a 9-3 win.

 

The two halves of Wednesday's game could not have been more different. The first 30 minutes were closely contested, and hard-fought for both sides. The first quarter closed a 1-1 draw. SUNY Poly took the lead late in the second quarter on a Shane Wyman goal with 2:42 remaining in the half.

 

In the third quarter, the Wildcats found their stride on offense, netting a barrage of unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead into the final quarter. Castleton would show some life in the fourth, opening the quarter with a pair of goals, but Poly answered back with two of their own to close out regulation.

 

GAME NOTES:

  • Andrew Maycock (Utica, N.Y.) led all players with three goals in the game. The three goals were a career-high for the sophomore.
  • Shane Wyman had a game-high four points on two goals and two assists. The junior also had two caused turnovers and two groundballs.
  • Matthew Johnson (Amsterdam, N.Y.) improved to 5-0 in goal. He made eight saves on 11 shots faced.
  • Brody Guido (North Syracuse, N.Y.) notched two points for the 'Cats. He scored a goal and had an assist.
  • Tyler Schmitz (Eden, N.Y.) had a game-high four caused turnovers and three groundballs.
  • Steven Sullivan (Carthage, N.Y.) had a game-high six groundballs and three caused turnovers.
  • Jackson Murphy (Greenville, N.Y.), Bennett Smith (Monroe, N.Y.), and Rhett Stauffer (Buffalo, N.Y.) rounded out the Wildcat goal scorers with a goal each.
  • Castleton's Hunter Sarro had a team-high two points on a goal and an assist.
  • Maxx Ingison was tagged with the loss in goal. He made nine saves.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will take on Cobleskill on April 21st at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
