Golf Finishes Fifth at Elmira Invitational

ELMIRA, NY – The SUNYIT golf team finished with a score of 688 to place fifth out of seven teams at the Elmira College Fall Invitational, which was played at the par 72, 6,652-yard Elmira Country Club this past Sunday and Monday.

 

Leading the way for SUNYIT was sophomore Chris Pace (Cortland, NY/Cortland), who shot an 84 in round one and an 80 in round two for a two-day score of 164, which placed him in fifth place individuallly.  Senior Caleb Gordon (Wolcott, NY/Cayuga County CC) shot a 164 to place ninth, while fellow classmate Rich Hickel (New Hartford, NY/Mohawk Valley CC) carded a 169 for an 11th place finish.  Rounding out the Wildcats was senior James Willey (Middleville, NY/Mohawk Valley CC), who shot a 189, and fellow classmate Adam O'Brien (Skaneateles, NY/Cayuga County CC), who shot a 193.

 

Elmira's Alex Marcoux earned medalist honors with an overall score of 151, while teammate Howie Fleischman took home runner-up individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 154.  Elmira won the event with a team total of 639, while SUNY Oswego came in second with a 369, Elmira "B" came in third with a 676 and Keystone College came in fourth with a final score of 678.

 

The Wildcats will be back in action this Friday when they travel to Penfield, NY to participate in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Championships.  Tee time for all three days of the tournament is scheduled for 10:00 am.
