MBB: Jesse O’Dell Scores His 1,000th Career Point for SUNY Poly at Maine Maritime.

CASTINE, Maine - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team lost to Maine Maritime on Friday night 93-62 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Play. Jesse O'Dell scored his 1,000th career point with seven minutes remaining in the game on an and-one layup, becoming the ninth player in program history to reach the milestone. The Wildcats are now 6-8 this season with a 1-3 record in NAC play. The Mariners are now 5-5 with a 2-0 record in NAC play.

 

CAREER MILESTONE:

Entering the game Jesse O'Dell needed nine points to reach the 1,000-point milestone. His opportunity came with seven minutes left in the game. Jesse fought through contact to knock down the layup and drew a foul. O'Dell, sitting at eight points in the game, went to the line with the chance to become just the ninth player in Wildcat men's basketball history to score his 1,000th career point. O'Dell delivered, joining the prestigious 1,000-Point Club. He would end the game with 11 points to reach 1,002 points.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Jesse O'Dell had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds for Poly. He became the ninth player in program history to join the 1,000-point club. He now sits in eighth place on the all-time scoring list at SUNY Poly. His eight rebounds also helped him climb to eighth place on the all-time rebounding list.
  • Cheickne Toure had a team-high 15 points in the game for the Wildcats. He knocked down a team-high three 3-pointers and had a block.
  • Curt Heinz was great for the Mariners. He scored a game-high 26 points on 12-19 shooting and pulled down a game-high 21 rebounds. Heinz was just one assist shy of a triple-double and had three blocks.
  • Carter Rubin had 18 points for the Mariners. He also had four rebounds and three assists.
  • Josiah Dancy and Malachi Reincke each had 14 points for Maine Maritime.
  • Markus Ramirez wrapped up MMA's double-digit scorers with 11 points.
  • Mitch Kernizan scored nine points off the bench for the Wildcats. He shot 80% from the field.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will travel to Thomas College on Saturday to take on the Terriers in North Atlantic Conference Play. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 PM tip-off.
