MBB: Wildcats Fall to #14 WPI at Home.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team hosted the #14 ranked WPI Engineers on Monday afternoon in a non-conference game. The Wildcats did a solid job defensively in the first half, holding the potent WPI offense to just 29 points in the first half, but the Engineers broke through in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 48-21 to seal the deal. The final score of the game was 77-41. The Wildcats are now 6-7 this season.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Andrew Lufkin had a game-high 21 points for the Engineers. He was a rebound away from a double-double and had five steals.
  • Josh Ernst was the leading scorer for the Wildcats. The junior scored 10 points and had a team-high eight rebounds. Ernst shot a perfect 3-3 from the field and knocked down all four of his free throws in the game.
  • WPI's John Adams and John Lowther each scored 13 points in the game. Lowther had four assists, three rebounds, three blocks, and a pair of steals. Adams had three rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block.
  • Jesse O'Dell had nine points for the Wildcats, inching closer to the 1,000 career point mark. He now has 991 career points, needing just nine to reach the milestone. O'Dell had six rebounds, two steals, and a block in the game.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will return to play in the new year. Their first contests will be a pair of North Atlantic Conference road games at Maine Maritime and Thomas. The games are scheduled for January 6th and 7th respectively.
