NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee Proposes Tweak to Block/Charge Call, Women’s Committee Floats 10-second Backcourt Rule

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Rules Committees for Men's and Women's Basketball proposed changes for next season during their annual meetings last week in Indianapolis.

The men's committee focused on the block/charge call. To be clear, the committee ultimately recommended a renewed interpretation to follow more closely with the original rule (click on the link below to read in more detail). The crux of the proposed interpretation would be to "allow for more offensive freedom."

The women's committee proposed adding a 10-second backcourt rule to mirror a rule that has been in place in the men's game since 1937. For some history on the rule and why it was never implemented in the women's game, check out this ESPN article.

Before they can be implemented, the proposed rules changes must be approved by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel, which next convenes via conference call June 18.
