Wildcats Lose to Morrisville, Rowe Honored for Senior Day

MARCY, N.Y. - The Wildcat men's basketball team hosted NEAC foe Morrisville State on Saturday for SUNYIT senior day. Despite not being able to secure the victory, the last game of the season was an emotional one for all those in attendance.

The Wildcats only had one senior being recognized on Saturday and that senior was Derek Rowe. Derek, a four year basketball player was honored before the game for his dedication and hard work in his years at SUNYIT. Derek, a duel major student (ETC/CET), was also a two sport athlete and captain of the lacrosse team. Derek joined his parents at center court for a photo with his parents and coach Grimmer.

Despite the emotional nature of the day, the wildcats still had a game to play. SUNYIT came out of the gates running as Junior Alex Drake (West Sand Lake, N.Y. / Lansingburgh) scored 17 points and hit five 3-pointers in the first half to get the Wildcats going early. This however was only enough to barely  keep up with the strong offense of the Mustangs. SUNYIT went into the half down 48-43.

In the second half the game was all Mustangs as they powered ahead and secured the victory by the final score of 96-75. The Mustangs got a large chunk of their offense from Jordan Prior who scored 21 points. All of Priors points were from the 3-ball. He went 7-8 from the 3-point line in 22 minutes of play.

Derek Rowe (Mexico, NY / Mexico) went out in style in his last game as a Wildcat. Derek scored 8 points, had 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and went a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.

The game would be the final one for the Wildcats this season. They ended up with a record of 9-16 (7-8 NEAC) and despite playing tough basketball all season, missed the playoffs. We will all be looking forward to the next season of Wildcat's Basketball.
