Wildcats Hold On and Beat Lancaster Bible 72-67

MARCY N.Y. - The SUNYIT men's basketball team defeated Lancaster Bible 72-67 on Monday in the last game of their 4 game home stand. Out of the gates, the game looked to be all Wildcats, but tough play by Lancaster and a few hiccups by the Wildcats had the both teams fighting for the victory at the end.

The first half went the way of the Wildcat. SUNYIT  got into a great offensive groove as they shot nearly 55% from the field, 60% from 3-point land, and had 7 assists as a team.  Freshman Kaleel Johnson (Syracuse, NY / Syr. Academy of Science) was nearly perfect in the half. He had 9 points on 4-4 shooting and was 1-1 from the charity stripe.

The second half was a different story as Lancaster battled hard to get the score within 2 points with just 1:30 left to play. The big second half comeback by the Chargers fell onto the shoulders of Senior Dondre Perry who answered the call with an 18 point second half.

Junior Desmian Greer (Washington Heights, NY / Chesire Acadamy) helped the Wildcats preserve the victory at home by hitting a big time three pointer as the shot clock expired in the last 45 seconds of regulation. The shot made it a two possession game and the Wildcats were able to close out the game on the foul line. Greer ended up with a game high 25 points.  Sophomore T'Andre Richardson (Utica, N.Y. / Utica-Proctor)had  a double-double with 10 rebounds and 13 points, and junior Alex Drake (Lansingburgh, N.Y. / Lansingburgh) had a game high  7 assists  to go along with his 9 points.

The Victory by the Wildcats brings their record to 5-11(3-3 NEAC), and drops Lancaster Bible to 2-14 (2-6 NEAC). The Wildcats have the rest of the week off, but will be traveling on Saturday to Keuka to take on the Storm. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
