Union Dutchmen Muffle the Roar of the SUNYIT Wildcats

SCHENECTADY, NY- The SUNYIT men's basketball team (0-2) rocked to their feet from their prior defeat against Utica College just in time to be knocked down again by Union College (3-1) at the Viniar Athletic Center Wednesday night.

Union's Joe Mason gave the Wildcats a taste of what was to come when he set the tone with his three-point shot nearly 15 seconds into the first half. The Wildcats struggled to stay above water as the Dutchmen maintained a doubled-score lead for the majority of the first 20 minutes. At the half, Union College led SUNYIT 38-21

In the second half, the Wildcats gained little ground, clawing to keep up with Union's stellar performance. As a young team with underdeveloped chemistry, the blue and grey can only grow from defeat and learn from mistake to ready themselves for the nearing conference matches. The season is young and the 'cats have plenty of time to blossom. Being led by defensive superstar Derek Rowe (Mexico, NY / Mexico) and aggressive guard Desmian Greer (Washington Heights, NY / Chesire Acadamy), the 2012/2013 team can only go up from here. Rowe had a stand-out game with a points-to-rebounds double-double (12-12).

The two teams played out the rest of the game finishing with a 74-51 Union College victory over SUNYIT. The Wildcats will tip-off next against Hamilton College on Saturday, December 1st at 3:00pm.
