Senior Trio Dominates to Help Men’s Basketball Get Past Morrisville State

UTICA, NYDavid Golembiowski (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) scored a game-high 29 points, Calvin Logins (Lyons, NY/Keuka College) posted his fifth double-double of the season and Kevin Cappiello (Youngsville, NY/Sullivan West) continued to climb up the program record books as the senior trio helped lead the SUNYIT men's basketball team past the visiting Morrisville State Mustangs 84-71 during Senior Night at the Campus Center Gymnasium Wednesday.  The Wildcats improved to 12-5 in the NEAC and 13-10 overall with the victory, while Morrisville fell to 9-8 in the conference and 11-2 overall.

Golembiowski added eight rebounds, five blocks and a season-high five assists to his point total, while Logins finished the night with 22 points and a game-high 11 boards and Cappiello dished out a team-best seven assists to pass Diloo Brown (2008-10) for fourth in program history in career assists.  Cappiello also had a game-high four steals, where he is also fourth all-time in the SUNYIT record books, and added 10 points and five rebounds on the night.

The Wildcats shot 54 percent on the night and won the rebounding battle 42-36, but still found themselves up just one, 54-53, with 12 minutes to play.  That's when they would go on a 12-3 run over the next four minutes to take a commanding 10-point lead and never look back.

Sophomore Justin Brignola (Clifton Park, NY/The Sage Colleges) scored 13 points in 19 minutes off the bench for SUNYIT, while fellow classmate Derek Rowe (Mexico, NY/Mexico) chipped in eight points and eight boards.

Wayne Turner scored 14 points for Morrisville, with Brandon Hanks adding 12 points and Dwayne Wade finishing with 11 points.

The Wildcats will close out their regular season this Saturday when they travel to take on conference rival Cazenovia College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
