WSOC: Wildcats Drop Road Contest to Elmira

Elmira, N.Y - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team suffered their first conference loss of the season, falling to the Elmira Soaring Eagles 3-0. Goalkeepers Michalyn Fagan and Katie Bowers combined for 12 saves, but the Wildcats struggled to contain Elmira's offense, which unleashed 21 shots. SUNY Poly's record now stands at 4-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

Elmira played a strong first half, registering eight shots on goal. Goalkeeper Michalyn Fagan stopped seven of eight in the half, with the lone goal being scored by Soaring Eagle Rachel Bortnick at the 33rd minute. The Wildcats could not get any shots on frame, which allowed Elmira to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. 

Elmira quickly extended the lead in the second half, scoring at the 47th minute mark to make it 2-0. The Wildcats had their chances, taking six shots in the half. The Soaring Eagles stood strong, making every save and even adding a third goal in the 85th minute. The loss leaves the Wildcats with a 4-2 record on the season.
