Women's Soccer Suffers 2-1 Loss to Sage

ALBANY, NY – The SUNYIT women's soccer team had its two-game win streak snapped with a 2-1 loss to The Sage Colleges Gators in a non-conference road contest Wednesday.  The loss dropped the Lady Wildcats to 4-2 overall, while Sage improved to 2-2 on the year.

Sage senior Laura Tisinger gave the Gators a 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the contest when she converted a cross from the right wing that was delivered by sophomore Rebecca Doble.  SUNYIT would answer ten minutes later with an unassisted goal by freshman Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) at 22:46 to tie the game at 1 all, and the score would remain that way at halftime.

The tie would not last long in the second half, as Sage junior Rebecca Marszalek found the back of the net off a rebound at 46:48, which would prove to be the game-winning goal for Sage.

Sage goalie Brittany McDonald made nine saves in the victory, while SUNYIT freshman goalie Aubrey Campbell (Auburn, NY/Auburn) finished with four saves and two goals allowed in 62 minutes of action, while fellow classmate Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) collected one save in 28 minutes of work.

The Wildcats will look to rebound this Saturday when they travel to take on NEAC rival Morrisville State at 1:00 pm.
