Wildcats Cruise to Victory with Record Setting Game

MARCY, N.Y.- The SUNYIT women's basketball team (8-4, 5-0 NEAC) remained unbeaten in NEAC play with a dominant 101-44 victory over visiting Wilson College (0-7, 0-4). The 101 points tops the previous record of 98 set last season in an overtime battle with Keuka. The Wildcats sprinted out to a 53-20 halftime lead and never looked back.

Twelve Wildcats tallied points as the team shot a solid 43% from the field and 35% from 3-point range. Leading the charge for the Wildcats was senior guard Jennifer Bullock (Bronx, N.Y. / NYC Museum) and junior forward Nijah Townsend (Bronx, N.Y. / Truman) with 17 points apiece to lead the team.

The Wildcats were able to dominate the paint grabbing a team total 70 rebounds with Mornique Murphy (Manhattan, N.Y. / Bryant) and Ashley Cox (Bronx, N.Y. / Bronx Center for Sci. and Mathematics) grabbing 8 each. Cox also contributed 10 points to the SUNYIT charge. SUNYIT freshmen guard Shannon Tooley (Ogdensburg, N.Y. / Ogdensburg) came into the game and played solid minutes off the bench, adding 4 points and playing tough defense to help the Wildcats.

Wilson College was led by senior guard Vanessa Whitfield with 26 points on 30 attempts. She was also able to add 15 rebounds to lead her team.

The Wildcats look to continue their winning ways tomorrow as they take on St. Elizabeth College at 1:00 pm in the Campus Center Gym.
