MBB: Wildcats Remain Atop NAC West Standings With 79-71 Win Over SUNY Canton. 

MARCY, N.Y. - The Wildcat men's basketball team earned a 79-71 win over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos to improve to 7-0 in NAC West Division play. The Wildcats now have three more wins in divisional play than the second place SUNY Delhi Broncos (4-1) who the Wildcats beat by 20 points in their first meeting of the season. The Wildcats Have two more NAC games remaining on their schedule; one against SUNY Delhi and one against SUNY Cobleskill.

 

The Wildcat offense had to spread the floor to beat the Kangaroos. SUNY Canton's big presence in the middle saw the Roos earn the edge inside which is typically where the Wildcats dominate. SUNY poly answered by hitting 10 3-pointers, their second-highest total of the season. The Wildcats shot 50% from beyond the arc, led by a 3-6 day from Sion Nelson. His three 3-pointers were the most he has hit in his career. The Wildcats also got great production off of their bench with 17 points to the Roo's seven bench points. The Wildcat's largest lead of the game was at 7:36 in the second half. They led by as many as 21.  

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Josh Gregory had a 19 point, 11 rebound double-double for the Wildcats. 

  • Jessee O'Dell scored 18 points, had eight rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal for his team. 

  • LJ Randle had 14 points seven rebounds, four assists, and a pair of blocks. 

  • Sion Nelson Shot 50% from 3-point land, scoring nine of his 11 points from outside. He also had a pair of rebounds. 

  • Quran DuBois had a game-high 22 points for SUNY Canton. He also had a game-high three steals. 

  • Justin Chambers-Phillips had 19 points for Canton. 

  • Andrew Fitch had a game-high 13 rebounds for Canton. He also had a game-high six blocks. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will host Utica College on Tuesday, February 1st at the Campus Center Gym. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM tip-off. The game will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN).
