BASE: Wildcats Split Against Gators.

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's baseball team split in a doubleheader against Russell Sage in non-conference play on Sunday. The Wildcats won the first game 5-4, before dropping the second game to the Gators 6-5 in walk-off fashion.

GAME 1:

In the first game, the Wildcats struck first on an error from Russell Sage that scored Kurt Johnson to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. The Gators would answer back in the bottom half of the frame on a three-run homerun from Brendan Espinal. The Wildcats would answer with three of their own in the 4th, after Brody Liddy laid down a great bunt that was thrown away, scoring Daniel Flaherty and Carter Romansky on the play. Anthony Ventiere would drive in Liddy to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead. Cole Paro would answer for the Gators in the bottom of the frame to score Leandro Guzman and again tie the game. In the 6th, Liddy would reach base on a walk and move to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kurt Johnson would continue his hot steak, driving in what would be the game-winning run to give the Wildcats a 5-4 lead. Andrew Sould pitched 5.2 strong innings for the Wildcats, earning the victory, while Connor Marcello and Alex Quig threw well in relief to secure the win for the Wildcats.

GAME 2: 

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Gators struck first on a double steal that sore Leandro Guzman to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. Parker Wing answered with an RBI double in the 3rd inning to score Kurt Johnson. An RBI groundout from Ryan Pelton would score Quinn Hill to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. Two Sage home runs and an RBI single would give them a 5-2 lead before Parker Wing answered with a home run himself to cut the lead to 5-3. Carter Romansky would tie the game in the same inning on a two-RBI double that would score Ethan Merone and Ryan Pelton. The game would remain scoreless and go to extra innings before the Gators would win on a walk-off single from Leandro Guzman in the bottom of the 8th inning.
