AURORA, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Volleyball team fell to conference foe Wells College on Friday evening. The Wildcats took the first set 25-17, but Wells rallied to take the next three sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-14). The Wildcats are now 8-15 on the season with 4-4 record in NEAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The match began very close, as neither team held a lead of more than three until the Wildcats scored their 15^th point. SUNY Poly would open up the lead from there led by a strong serving effort from Shannon McIntyre (New Berlin, N.Y.), kills from Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.), and several attacking errors from Wells. The Wildcats would not look back, taking the set 25-17.

The match began to lean in favor of the Express in the second set. With the support of an animated home crowd, Wells jumped out to a 4-0 lead. SUNY Poly would battle back, bring the set to a 9-9 tie after a service ace by freshman Amanda Batten (Penfield, N.Y.). After the ace, Wells took the next three points and built on that momentum to take the set.

The third set began neck and neck, as both teams battled for the crucial two sets to one advantage. The set was tied 16-16 when the Express rallied for five straight points. The lead was too much for SUNY Poly to overcome, as they dropped the set 25-20.

In the fourth and final set, the Express were too much to handle for the Wildcats. Wells got out to an early lead and never looked back.

NOTABLES:

• The Wildcats were led by Karlie King and her 16 kills. She also recorded eight digs and a block.
• SUNY Poly freshman Brooke Taverne (Westmoreland, N.Y.) had a career high nine kills on the evening. Brittany Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y.) also had nine kills for the Wildcats.
• Claire Ladlee (Leonardsville, N.Y.) recorded five kills and a team high .400 attack percentage. Ladlee also had four block assists in the match.
• Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) led the Wildcats with 41 assists to go along with three service aces.
• Jackie Allen led Wells with 10 kills to go along with 14 digs.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats look to bounce back on Thursday October 18^th as they travel to local rival Utica College. The two teams met earlier this season, with the Wildcats winning the match in four sets. The match is set to begin at 7:00pm.
