CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Wildcats traveled to SUNY Cortland on Tuesday October 2nd. The Wildcats had one of their best matches of the season thus far as they took the match in straight sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-15). Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) led all players with 11 kills in the match. The Wildcats are now 7-12 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wildcats jumped out to a 12-6 lead early in the first set. The duo of Karlie King and Makayla Hulett (Colonie, N.Y.) led the charge for the Wildcats, as both recorded multiple kills in the early run. The Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland would not give in, storming all the way back to take a 21-20 advantage. Despite the strong comeback effort from the Red Dragons, the Wildcats took the set due in part to a series of errors by Cortland.
The second set was extremely close throughout. The Wildcats and the Red Dragons were knotted at 20 late in the set until a strong serving effort from Samantha Henry (Greenport, N.Y.) led the Wildcats to the second set win.
The Wildcats built on the momentum in the third set. SUNY Poly led the entire set, and took the match handily 25-15.
NOTABLES:
- Karlie King recorded a team-high two service aces to go along with her 11 kills and .269 attack percentage.
- Makayla Hulett had seven kills on the evening, as well as a block and a block assist.
- Brittany Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Claire Ladlee (Leonardsville, N.Y.) each had five kills and two digs for SUNY Poly.
- Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) added to her program assist record with 28 in the match, bringing her career total to 3,358.
- Nadia Moore led the way for Cortland with eight kills and 5 block assists.
- The Wildcats recorded 32 kills on just 11 errors, while the Red Dragons had 29 kills to go along with 29 errors.

We have seen bits and pieces of really great play this year, but this was definitely our most consistent and controlled effort thus far. To perform like that against a very talented Cortland team was special. I am proud of the way we controlled the match from start to finish. It was the perfect time for a big win where the girls could see all that hard work start to pay off, especially heading into some key NEAC match-ups."

The SUNY Poly Wildcats hope to continue their winning ways as they travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania to take on NEAC rivals Penn State Berks and Penn College on Saturday October 6th. The Wildcats will face Penn State Berks at 11:00am and Penn College at 1:00pm.
