MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Volleyball Team defeated local rival Utica College in four sets (25-10, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19). Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) led SUNY Poly by recording a season high 17 kills to go along with 15 digs and a service ace in the winning effort. The Wildcats move to 5-12 overall with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wildcats got off to a hot start in the first set behind a strong serving effort from Shannon McIntyre (New Berlin, N.Y.). The strong balanced attack from SUNY Poly was key, as six different Wildcats recorded kills in the first set.
The start of the second was more of the same for the Wildcats. Samantha Henry (Greenport, N.Y.) had three service aces to bring the Wildcats to a 10-2 advantage. Utica College, however, would not give in as they narrowed the SUNY Poly lead to 23-21. The Wildcats held on to take the set behind two kills from Karlie King.
The third set was a hard fought battle between both teams. Neither team had an advantage of more than five points in the set. Unfortunately for SUNY Poly, the Pioneers took the set, led by Nicole Herringshaw and her eight kills.
The Wildcats showed great poise in the fourth and final set as they battled back from an early deficit to take the match. Makayla Hulett (Colonie, N.Y.) had four kills in the set, including the match winner assisted by Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.).
NOTABLES:
- Shannon McIntyre and Samantha Henry recorded five service aces apiece. McIntyre also had eight digs in the match.
- Sydney Johnson, the Wildcats all-time leader in assists, added 43 more assists in the match bringing her to a career total of 3284.
- Claire Ladlee (Leonardsville, N.Y.) recorded 10 kills and 3 block assists.
- Utica College was led by Nicole Herringshaw's 15 kills.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday September 29th as they take on Bowdoin at 3:00pm and local rival Hamilton College at 5:00pm. Both matches will be played at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.
