WVB: Solid Team Play Leads Wildcats to a Three Set Win in NEAC Play

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Volleyball team picked up their second conference victory on Wednesday, as they took down NEAC rival Cazenovia (25-20, 25-18, 25-20). The Wildcats are now 2-0 in conference play, and 4-9 overall. Seven Wildcats recorded two or more kills on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SET 1:

The Wildcats of SUNY Poly began the match neck and neck until they were able to take a 19-12 advantage. Claire Ladlee (Leonardsville, N.Y.) led a 4-0 run with two kills and a block assist to open up the lead for SUNY Poly. The Wildcats would not look back, taking the set 25-20. Makayla Hulett (Colonie, N.Y.) totaled four kills in the set, Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Claire Ladlee added three kills apiece for SUNY Poly.

SET 2:

The Wildcats of SUNY Poly built on the momentum of the first set, taking a commanding lead of 21-12 late in the second set. Ladlee again led the charge for the Wildcats in the second set with three kills and one block.

SET 3:

Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) led off the third set with a service ace, and the Wildcats jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage. Cazenovia would fight back, taking a 7-5 lead. The score remained close until the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to take the match.

NOTABLES:

  • Karlie King and Makayla Hulett led the SUNY Poly with nine kills apiece. King added 12 digs and three assists. Hulett had five digs, one assist, and one block assist.
  • Claire Ladlee had seven kills, two block assists and one solo block.
  • Sydney Johnson had 27 assists, 14 digs, four kills, one block assist, and one service ace.
  • Emma Horsch led Cazenovia with seven kills to go along with six digs, one service ace, and one assist.

The Wildcats are slated to take on NEAC foes Gallaudet University at 11:30am and Lancaster Bible at 2:00pm on Saturday September 22nd at SUNY Cobleskill.
