MARCY, N.Y. – The Wildcats traveled to Hartwick College to compete in the 2018 Hartwick Invitational. SUNY Poly lost their first match on Friday against King's College (Pa.) in four sets (25-22, 27-29, 19-25, 24-26). The Wildcats did not fare better on day two of the invitational as they were defeated by Oneonta (25-7, 25-21, 25-13) and Hartwick (25-21, 27-25, 25-15) on Saturday. Despite a disappointing weekend for the Wildcats, Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) made history by breaking the program record for career assists.
RECORD BROKEN:
Sydney Johnson entered the weekend needing just 26 assists to break the all-time assists record at SUNY Poly. Johnson recorded 46 assists in Friday's match against King's breaking the previous record held by Nicole Higgins (2010) of 3,118. Johnson finished the weekend with 58 total assists, bringing her to a career total of 3,151.
MATCH 1:
SUNY Poly lost a heartbreaking match against King's (Pa.) on Friday evening. Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with 13 kills to go along with 15 digs and two service aces. Claire Ladlee (Leonardsville, N.Y.) added nine kills, one block, and one block assist. The Monarchs were led by Rachel Miller's 24 kills and 22 digs.
MATCH 2:
The Wildcats dropped their first match on Saturday in straight sets to SUNY Oneonta. Clara Culeton led Oneonta with 12 kills. For the Wildcats, Brooke Taverne (Westmoreland, N.Y.) recorded a career high five kills to lead the Wildcats.
MATCH 3:
The struggles continued in the final match of the tournament for the Wildcats, losing to Hartwick in three sets. Kaley Pichura (Syracuse, N.Y.) had a career high of 14 assists in the match. Karlie King recorded eight kills for SUNY Poly.
UP NEXT:
The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday September 19th for a home match against NEAC foe Cazenovia. The match is set to begin at 7:00pm in the Wildcat Fieldhouse.
