MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's volleyball played host to a NEAC Pool Play event this past weekend. Teams in attendance included Penn State Berks, Morrisville, Cobleskill, Lancaster Bible, and Penn College. The Wildcats dominated in their three matches winning nine out of ten sets including their first seven of the weekend. The 3-0 weekend brings the team's current winning streak to 12 including their first 6 NEAC matches.
The Wildcats beat Lancaster Bible in their first match of the weekend 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-19). The Wildcats saw some great match performances from Morgan Eberley (Utica, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) who had a match high 14 kills on 34 attempts and 10 digs. Ryenn Smith (Lyons, N.Y. / Lyons Sr./Jr. HS) recorded 11 kills and 14 digs, and Emma Larson (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place HS) had 10 kills, 12 digs and 2 service aces.
The second match of the week went much like the first as the Wildcats of SUNY Poly defeated the Wildcats of Penn College in 3 sets (25-12, 25-18, 25-13). Melissa Krak (Canastota, N.Y. / Canastota HS) recorded a match high 13 kills on 21 attempts and 12 digs. Freshman Setter Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, W.A. / Lakeside HS) recorded a Wildcat season high 10 service aces. She also had 33 assists, and 6 kills.
On day two of the event SUNY Poly faced its most difficult opponent of the weekend; Penn State Berks. The Wildcats were up to the challenge and defeated Berks in four hard-fought sets 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 25-15). Morgan Eberley set her career high kills number one notch higher by recording 21 to pass her prior mark of 20. Shelby Kostal (Greenport, N.Y. / Greenport HS) recorded 5 service aces in the match. Emma Larson and Ryenn Smith each registered double digit kills in the match; Larson with 11 and Smith with 13.
The weekend sweep places SUNY Poly atop the NEAC standings at a perfect 6-0 in conference play. The Wildcats have won 12 in a row after dropping their first two matches of the season. Their overall record stands at 12-2. The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday when they host local rival Hamilton College. The match is set to start at 7:00 PM in the Wildcat Field House.
