WSOC: Wildcats Cruise to Their First NEAC Win of the Season.

MARCY, N.Y. - The Wildcat women's soccer team cruised to their first win of the season on Saturday in a 6-1 win over the Wells College Express. Nakeya Stedman (Sauquoit, N.Y.) had a huge day for the 'Cats in the win and two players scored their first goals of the season. The Wildcats record is now 1-2-1 in 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Express struck first in the game when Mackenzie Maloney scored an unassisted goal in the 28th minute. Nakeya Stedman would tie up the game just 14 seconds later with a goal right off the reset. Stedman would strike again before the half to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.

In the second half, the Wildcats continued their dominance, netting four more goals to earn the 6-1 win.

NOTABLES:

  • Nakeya Stedman had a career day. The senior scored four goals for the Wildcats on six shots. The eight points bring her career total to 102.
  • Alysia Thomas (Greenville, N.Y.) earned her first career win in the game. The sophomore made four saves and allowed just one goal to improve to 1-2-1 this season.
  • Jenna Rogers (Turin, N.Y.) scored her first goal as a Wildcat in the 82nd minute. Rogers scored off a beautiful through ball from Adrianna Marcolin (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) to push the Wildcat lead to five goals in the closing minutes. Rogers also had an assist in the game.
  • Adrianna Marcolin had a goal and two assists in the game. She now has six points this season on a goal and four assists.
  • Alexis Huff was on the losing end of the decision. The Wells goalkeeper allowed two goals in 45:00 minutes of play.
  • Mackenzie Maloney scored the lone goal of the game for the Express.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will be back in action on Tuesday, September 18th when they travel to Cobleskill to take on the Cobleskill Fighting Tigers. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM kick-off. The last meeting between the two teams was a big 12-0 win for the Wildcats.
