MARCY, N.Y. - The Wildcat's women's soccer team earned a 3-2 win on Wednesday against local rival Utica College. The game went back and forth through the first 60 minutes, neither team able to hold a lead for long. The Wildcats would deal the fatal blow to the Pioneers in the 74th minute when they took the lead on a goal by Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y.) in the 74th minute. The Cats' would hold the lead and emerge with their undefeated record intact and their first win over Utica College since 1996.

The Wildcats did not get off to the start that they wanted in the game; allowing an early goal to the Pioneers in just the sixth minute of play. McKenna Hungerford (Morris, N.Y.) would have the answer to the early goal in the 24th minute off a Madisyn Proper (Vernon, N.Y.) assist. The score would remain knotted at 1-1 for the remainder of the first half.

SUNY Poly came out of the locker room at the half looking to strike early and that is exactly what they did. Senior defender Alicia Wittmann (Rome, N.Y.) supplied the fire power, scoring her first goal of the season and giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. But the Pioneers would bounce right back just five minutes later on a goal from Xiomara Rodriguez on an assist from Ciara McIlvenny. In the 74th minute of play the stalemate would be broken by Corrina Marconi who scored the game winner off a Brittany Waterbury (Remsen, N.Y.) assist. The goal was Marconi's second of the year. The Wildcats would fend off the Utica attack, earning the win 3-2in regulation.

Reigning NEAC Defensive Player of the Week Angela Bartlett (West Winfield, N.Y.) made four saves in the game on six shots. Her opponent Jamie Enders made five saves on eight shots.

The Wildcats are now 5-0-1 on the year. They will continue their 2016 campaign on Saturday when they host NEAC rival Keuka College. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
