WSOC: Wildcats go 1-0-1 at Wildcat Classic to Open Their 2016 Season.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Women's soccer hosted their annual Wildcat Classic Tournament this past weekend. The teams in attendance; SUNY Poly, Bryant & Stratton, Cazenovia, and Hilbert each played two games to open up the season. The Wildcats beat Hilbert on Friday 3-1 under the lights and played Bryant & Stratton to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

Friday night's game went the Wildcats way from the start. In the 17th minute Nakeya Stedman (Sauquoit, N.Y.) scored a beautiful breakaway goal off an assist from Brittany Waterbury (Remsen, N.Y.). The Wildcats would hold the one goal lead deep into the second half before extending it to 2-0 on a Waterbury goal on a beautifully placed corner kick that deflected into the goal off of the keeper. Waterbury would strike again in the 85th minute to make it a 3-0 game. She finished the game with four points. The Hawks did not go down without a fight, answering the third goal with one of their own just 27 seconds later on a nicely placed top-shelf goal by Jennifer Colvin to make it 3-1. That is where the score would stay as the final minutes ticked away on the Wildcats first win of the season. The Wildcats goalkeeper Angela Bartlett (West Winfield, N.Y.) finished up the game with five saves and one goal against.

Saturday's game saw the Wildcats fight hard on the defensive side of the ball and have a lot of missed opportunities on the offensive side. The Wildcats outshot the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats by a huge 16-2 margin. The Wildcats put 13 of those shots on goal but could not find the back of the net. Bartlett had to make just one save in her 90 minutes as the defense stifled the Bobcats. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Wildcats are now 1-0-1 on the season. They will host SUNY Canton on Tuesday September 6th. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM at Wildcat Field. Live stats will be available HERE
