UTICA, N.Y - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team traveled across town to take on the Utica College Pioneers on Wednesday at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium on the Utica College Campus. The women fought to a 1-1 tie in a double OT match.

The Pioneers struck first in the 29th minute on a chip shot goal across the box by Jenna Mazza. The goal for the Pioneers was set up by Maddisen Melley who drew the defense in and kicked it out to Mazza who had a wide open shooting lane.

The Wildcats would have an answer for the goal, but not until late in the second half when junior Natalie Streifert (Rome, N.Y / Rome Free Academy) lined up for a free kick from 30 yards out with just under 20 minutes remaining in regulation. Streifert lined up the shot and rocketed a long ball that beat the goalie high. The sensational goal was the first for Streifert in a Wildcats uniform.

The two teams traded blows in OT but neither team was able to find the back of the net. The game ended in a tie.

For the Wildcats, Angela Bartlett (West Winfield, N.Y. / Mount Markham HS) registered five saves. The Wildcats put eight of eleven shots on goal, a percentage of .727.

With the tie, SUNY Poly's record goes to 1-1-1. The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, September 19th when they travel to Cazenovia for their first NEAC Conference game. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.
