MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team hosted Sage College on Tuesday in what would be the Wildcats first win at home of the season. The team rattled off a solid 15 goals in the game in route to a six-goal win; 15-9.
The Gators of Sage College went shot-for-shot with the Wildcats through the first 20 minutes of the game. The Wildcats would pull ahead by two goals in the last 10 minutes of the first half to take a 6-4 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half was a completely different story as the Wildcats rattled off the first four goals in the second half to extend the lead to 10-4. The Wildcats would go on a second 4-0 run later in the half to secure the win.
Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y.) and Kayla Prosinski (Endwell, N.Y.) each had five goals for the Wildcats in the win. Beha had seven ground balls, nine draw controls, and four caused turnovers; all game highs. Beha also had an assist in the win. The freshman Prosinski had five draw controls, two groundballs and a caused turnover to go along with her five goals.
Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y.) had four goals and three assists in the game, leading the Wildcats with seven points. Ames put eight of 13 shots on goal.
Emma Larson (Miler Place, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season in the matchup against Sage. Larson also had four groundballs, a draw control, and a caused turnover.
While Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y.) may not have scored in the game, the junior filled up her stat sheet with hustle stats. The junior had five groundballs, four draw controls, and had three caused turnovers in the game.
Brittany Waterbury (Remsen, N.Y.) earned her second win of the season in goal for the Wildcats. Waterbury played all 60 minutes and made eight saves on 17 shots.
For Sage, Monica Koralus had a team high three goals on seven shots and had a team high four draw controls. Adriana Spunches tied her teammate Nicole Maher with a team high with four caused turnovers. Spunches and Maher also had a goal each in the game.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-0 this season while the loss drops the Gators to 0-3. The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday March 26th when they will travel to Alfred to take on the Saxons in a non-conference game. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
