WLAX: Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Canton

CANTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (10-2, 7-0 NEAC) fell for just the second time on Sunday afternoon to SUNY Canton (11-4). The Wildcats outscored the Roos in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 5-2 halftime deficit.

Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) continued to lead the Wildcats with a team-high four points on three goals and an assist.

SUNY Canton came out firing, scoring two fast-break goals in the first 20 seconds. Beha stopped the bleed four minutes later to cut the Roos' lead in half. The home team would go on to score the next three goals of the game over a 12 minute span. Beha stopped the run again, making it 5-2 with nine minutes to go in the half. Both defenses would take over as neither team scored for the remainder of the stanza.

The Roos scored the opening two goals of the second half to extend their lead to 7-2. The visitors scored four of the final five goals of the game, starting with Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage HS) with 18 minutes to play. Ames would strike again off a feed from Beha with 1:48 left in the game to get within two of Canton. That would prove to be the final goal however, as the Roos won the ensuing draw and stalled for the final minutes.

Ames finished with three points, adding an assist to her two goals. Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili) rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats, adding a goal of her own.

Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown HS) led an outstanding Wildcat defensive effort with game-highs of seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. The sophomore also led her her team with four draw controls.

Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen HS) had a career day in goal with 11 saves on 19 shots.

The Wildcats return to action next weekend when they travel to Morrisville St. and Cazenovia to close out the regular season.
