WLAX: Wildcats Win Program-Best 10th Game Over Medaille

MARCY, N.Y.  – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (10-1, 7-0 NEAC) set a new program-best in wins on Saturday afternoon with a conference win over Medaille (9-4, 5-2 NEAC). The Wildcats earned their 10th win of the season, besting last year's record of nine.

Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage HS) led all scorers with six points. The junior netted four goals and dished out two assists.

Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili HS) struck first for the home team, scoring 41 seconds into the game. The Mavericks answered a minute later to tie the game at 1s. SUNY Poly proceeded to go on a four goal run, which started and finished with Jenny Maxam (Clinton, N.Y. / Clinton HS), to take the lead for good. Medaille showed no signs of backing down as they scored the final two goals of the half, leaving the Wildcats an 8-4 lead at the break.

SUNY Poly answered the Mavericks with two goals of their own to start the second half. The Wildcats continued to use the final 30 minutes to propel past the visitors. Backed by an outstanding defensive effort, the home team outscored Medaille 10-2 to solidify an 18-6 victory.

Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro) matched Serota with four goals of her own, also adding an assist. Maxam finished with a career-high three goals while Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage HS), Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie HS), and Alexandria Dodge (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) each scored twice.

Beha led the defense with four ground balls and five caused turnovers, while leading her team with a game-high eight draw controls.

Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen HS) got the win in goal with five saves on 11 shots. The sophomore also secured four ground balls.

SUNY Poly travels to Canton tomorrow to take on the Roos in their final non-conference matchup of the season.
