WLAX: Wildcats Outlast Saxons at Home

MARCY, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (2-0) upended the Alfred Saxons (2-3) by a score of 12-6. The Wildcats opened the second half with four unanswered goals to put away the visitors.

Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage HS) and Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) led the team with six points apiece.

Alfred opened the first half with a goal just 12 seconds in after winning the first draw control of the game. The Wildcats responded three minutes later when Ames scored her first of the game off a feed from Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage HS). The two teams continued to exchange goals, tying again at 3s and 4s.

Ames added her second with 3:49 remaining in the half to put the Wildcats up for good. With 12 seconds to go, Beha worked the crease with Serota until she found an opening to give the home team a 6-4 lead going into the break.

SUNY Poly carried their momentum into the second half, scoring four goals over 11 minutes. Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili HS) scored back-to-back goals to end the run with 19:08 to play. Both teams would score two more goals to close out the game.

The Wildcats put forth a strong defensive effort throughout the game with six different players causing multiple turnovers. Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet) led the team with five caused turnovers. Serota and McGlynn had a team-high three ground balls, while Serota also had a game-high four draw controls.

Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen HS) earned her second win in goal, recording 10 saves on 16 shots.

SUNY Poly will return to action at home on Wednesday, March 23rd when they face SUNY Maritime at 6:00.
