WLAX: Wildcats Top Gators in Season Opener

TROY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (1-0) scored ten goals in the first half to outlast the Sage Gators (0-1) on Saturday afternoon. Six different scorers combined for the Wildcats to earn the 14-5 win.

Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) led the team with five points on four goals and one assist.

Beha scored her first goal with 20:40 left in the first half to tie the game at 2s. The Wildcats went on to score the next five goals of the game, including two apiece from Beha and Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage HS), to hold a 7-2 advantage with 6:34 to play in the half. Sophomore defender Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown HS) scored the final goal of the half to give the visitors the 10-3 advantage.

SUNY Poly was able to slow down the second half, only allowing two goals from the Gators. Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie HS) scored two of the Wildcats' four goals, both in the final seven minutes of the game. 

Serota finished with five points, adding another goal in the second half and three assists throughout the game. DiPiazza and Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage HS) each finished with three points. Cerasuolo added two goals and Jenny Maxam (Clinton, N.Y. / Clinton HS) chipped in one.

Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet HS) led the defense with five ground balls and five caused turnovers, also adding three draw controls. Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen HS) earned the win between pipes in her first career start, turning away seven of 12 shots.

The Wildcats return to action for their home opener against Alfred on Saturday, March 19th at 12:00.
