Second Half Propels Women’s Lacrosse Past Cazenovia

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (7-6, 5-3 NEAC) used a convincing second half to earn an 11-6 win over Cazenovia (6-8, 4-4 NEAC) on Tuesday night.

The home team used seven second half goals along with a shutout after the break to get past the visiting Wildcats. Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage) led the way for SUNY Poly with five goals and also added five ground balls.

Serota started things off for the Wildcats six minutes into the first half on an unassisted crease-roll. The teams then tied at 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s, until the visitors scored the last two goals to hold a 6-4 advantage at the break.

Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro) got things going in the second half on a free position goal at 22:56 and Serota tied things up at 6-6 with 16:08 to play. From there the home team took off, adding five more throughout the half. The Wildcats picked up 17 second-half ground balls and forced Cazenovia into going 6-14 on their clears to maintain control of the game.

Beha finished with three goals and an assist while Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown) recorded two goals.

Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet) led the defense with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Cassidy Thompson (Weedsport, N.Y. / Weedsport) earned the win in net with five saves.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday when they take on Penn St.-Abington for Senior Day.
