Women’s Lacrosse Loses Heartbreaker at Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (3-4, 1-2 NEAC) was unable to hold off Medaille (4-1, 3-0 NEAC) Tuesday evening as the Mavericks scored with 10 seconds left to win 13-12.

The Wildcats were led by Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage) who had a career day recording 7 points on 6 goals and an assist. The junior also recorded a ground ball and 3 draw controls.

Medaille opened the scoring early in the first half, but Serota answered quickly off a Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) feed to even things up. The Wildcats would score one more before the Mavericks went on a three-goal run to go up 5-2. SUNY Poly responded with a five-goal run of their own to end the first half with a 7-5 lead.

The second half was played much like the first with the two teams exchanging goals until Serota scored what looked like the game-winner with 1:20 to play. Medaille, however, had an answer 30 seconds later to tie the game at 12. Emily Brophy was awarded a free position with 10 seconds to play and scored her seventh goal of the day to secure the win for the home team.

Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili) and DiPiazza each finished with 2 goals and an assist for the Wildcats. Defenders Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet) and Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown) both added a goal to round out the scoring.

McGlynn also added 2 assists, 4 ground balls, 6 draw controls, and 3 caused turnovers, which were all team-highs.

Casey McBride (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. / Pleasantville) got her first start in goal, recording 6 saves.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday afternoon in a home matchup against Lancaster Bible.
