Women’s Lacrosse Falls Short Against Morrisville

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (3-3, 1-1 NEAC) suffered their first conference lost Wednesday evening against Morrisville St. (2-5, 2-0 NEAC). The Wildcats were unable to overcome a second half run by the Mustangs, eventually falling 15-10.

The game started with a seven minute scoring drought until Morrisville St. broke through with the first goal. The Wildcats scored the next two goals including one from Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet). The junior defender would add two more in the half to pace the Wildcats to a 5-5 tie going into the locker room.

Morrisville opened the second half with a four goal run over four minutes to go up 9-5. The two teams exchanged goals until the Wildcats pulled within two after a Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage) goal off a Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage) feed, making it 10-8. The home team wouldn't get that close again as the Mustangs scored the next five goals to take a 15-8 advantage.

Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili), McGlynn, and Ames all finished with a team-high 3 points. Marconi and McGlynn both got their points off of 3 goals while Ames recorded a goal and 2 assists. Alexandria Dodge (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro) and Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) each added a goal to round out the scoring for the Wildcats.

McGlynn also added 4 ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers to round out her impressive day. Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown) recorded a team-high 5 ground balls as well as a caused turnover.

Cassidy Thompson (Weedsport, N.Y. / Weedsport) got the decision in goal with 4 saves.

The Wildcats return to action next Tuesday in a road game at Medaille.
