Women’s Lacrosse Downs Sage in Season-Opener

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (1-0) took down Sage (0-1) in their season-opener Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats were in complete control winning by a score of 20-2. Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro) paced the Wildcats with 7 goals and 2 assists while eight other players added goals on the day.

Alexandria Dodge (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro) opened up the scoring two minutes into the game off an assist from Beha. The home team would then go on to score 11 more before letting up their first goal of the game with 33 seconds left in the half. The Wildcats went into the locker room with a 12-1 lead.

The second half opened just like the first with Dodge getting the first tally, this time on a free position shot. The Wildcats continued to find the back of the net until Nicole DiPiazza (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) closed out the scoring with the last two goals of the game.

DiPiazza and Dodge finished with 3 and 2 goals on the day, respectively. Newcomer, Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage) finished with 3 goals and 2 assists in her first game as a Wildcat.

Beha rounded out her day with a team-leading 10 ground balls, 11 draw controls, and 4 caused turnovers. Junior defender Tierney McGlynn (Watervilet, N.Y. / Watervilet) matched her teammate with 4 caused turnovers while recording 5 ground balls of her own. McGlynn also added a goal on the day.

Cassidy Thompson (Weedsport, N.Y. / Weedsport) got the win in goal with 4 saves.

The Wildcats return to action on Thursday, March 19th at Maritime.
