MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team improved to 6-5 on Saturday with a 76-65 win over the Alfred State (3-8). The Wildcats took an early lead and did not trail the Pioneers for the entire game. The team played tenacious defense, tallying 13 steals in the game. The Cats' shot 45 percent from behind the three-point line, knocking down nine, and shot a season best 11-11 at the charity stripe.
The Wildcats got out to a small lead in the first quarter, 17-14, thanks to some solid three-point shooting. The Cats' lead would grow to eight at the half before it exploded to 24 in the second half. The Wildcats bench players made a big contribution in the game, scoring 25 points.
Cassidy Albright (New York Mills, N.Y.) saw a steep jump in minutes against Alfred St. and responded in style. The sophomore had a double-double in the game scoring 10 points and snagging 11 rebounds, seven of which were offensive. Albright shot 44 percent from the field and hit two three-pointers. She also had a steal and a block.
Khristaijah Jackson (Levittown, Pa.) was the leading scorer for the Wildcats. The senior scored 19 points and had four rebounds. Jackson was active on defense as usual playing solid in the post to rack up two steals and a block.
Rylie Smith (St. Johnsville, N.Y.), Shannon Harrison (Holand Patent, N.Y.), and Taylor Aybar (Woodside, N.Y.), rounded out the notable performances in the game scoring 14, 13, and 11 points respectively. Smith did the majority of her damage from three-point range where she scored 12 of her 14 points. She nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds. Harrison scored 13 points with three rebounds, three steals steals and two assists. Aybar had five assists and six rebounds.
Alfred Sate's Catherine Bialecki had a stand out performance in the game. The junior recorded a double-double with 32 points and 17 rebounds. Both totals were game highs. Bialecki nearly had a triple-double recording a ridiculous eight blocks in the game.

The Wildcats will take to the road for their next game. The Wildcats will visit NEAC rival Cobleskill State on Wednesday in their first NEAC game of the second semester. The game is scheduled for 7:00 on Wednesday January 10th.
