WBB: Wildcats Overcome Halftime Deficit to Beat Utica 76-69.

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team traveled across town on Sunday to open up their 2016-17 season against local rival Utica College. The Wildcats trailed early in the game but rebounded back after trailing at the half to outscore the Pioneers 47-35 in the second half to earn a seven-point win; 76-69.

Stevie Ray (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the way for the Wildcats. She dropped a game high 34 points on the Pioneers. She went 7-16 from three-point land and shot 52 percent from the field on 21 attempts.

Khristaijah Jackson (Levittown, Pa.) had a double-double in her first game as a Wildcat. Jackson scored a solid 25 points on 10-19 shooting and had a game high 18 rebounds. The Junior dominated the boards grabbing six offensive rebounds and 12 defensive rebounds.

Junior Paige Gallo (Balston Spa, N.Y.) had eight points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the win. Freshman guard Taylor Aybar (Woodside, N.Y.) had a game high eight assists in her first collegiate game and had five steals, a block, and a point.

For the Pioneers Asheyne Baab and Rachel Hunter had 19 and 15 points respectively. Alaina Tripp had 10 rebounds and nine points, Ashley Mayo had 13 points and four assists, and Nicolette Conkin had 7 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

The Wildcats are now 1-0 on the season. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, November 22nd when they will travel to Hamilton College for another local rivalry game. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM tip-off. Live coverage of the game will be available HERE.
