SB: Offense Sparks Home Opener Wins Over Cazenoivia.

MARCY, N.Y. The SUNY Poly softball team finally got to play a doubleheader on their home field. Both games were a bit of a rocky start for the Wildcats, but their bats came alive combining 16 runs on 19 hits. They are currently 6-4 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).

Game 1:

In game one Cazenovia got on the board first with an RBI single from Hannah Croteau. The Wildcats would tie the game in the bottom of the first on a throwing error by the first baseman. In the bottom of the third, Bailey Wood (Preston Hollow, N.Y.) drove in a run with a single to left field to take the lead. Cazenovia would bounce back in the top of the fourth inning driving in two runs on two hits. The Wildcats sealed the win a two RBI single by Courtney Morton (Whitesboro, N.Y.) up the middle making the final score 5-3.

Bailee Haddad (Frankfort, N.Y.) went 2-4 for the Wildcats in game one with no strikeouts. Courtney Morton 1-3 on the day with two RBIs. Kylie Chesebro (Oneida, N.Y.) earned the W for the 'Cats. The freshman threw the whole game giving up six hits and throwing five strikeouts.

Cazenovia's Kelsey Morgan and Hannah Croteau both went 1-3 on the day, each driving in a run. On the mound for Caz was Kelsey Morgan who gave up five runs on six hits.

 

Game 2:

Cazenovia struck first in game two driving in three runs in the first inning. The Wildcats' came back strong in the bottom of the fifth tacking on three runs to make it a 7-3 game. Courtney Morton gave the lead to the Wildcats on an error from the pitcher. Michaela Costello (Franfort, N.Y.) drove in a run with a single to right field. Pitcher Celine Laracuente, (Utica, N.Y.) had a nice drive into right field that brought in a run to make the score 9-3. The game ended with a run rule courtesy of an RBI single by Stephanie Smith (Utica, N.Y.) that put the score at 11-3.

Bailey Wood had a perfect game at the plate going 3-3 and driving in two runs with a double and a triple. Celine Laracuente was also stellar at the plate going 3-4 with two RBIs. The senior was also on the mound for the 'Cats earning her second win of the season. She threw all seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits.

For Cazenovia, Abigail House was credited with the loss. She pitched 5 innings allowing seven runs on ten hits. She had two strikeouts on the day. Olivia Deraway came in to relieve House. She gave up four runs on three hits. Brynn Waloven went 2-3 with an RBI on the day.

 

Next up for the Wildcats is a home doubleheader against the Wells Express (6-3, NEAC) on Friday the 27th. Game one will begin at 3:30PM followed by game two at 5:30PM.
