SB: Wildcats Fall to Abington in High Scoring Double Header.

ABINGTON, PA. - The SUNY Poly softball team traveled to Penn St. Abington for a doubleheader on Sunday. The Wildcats looked to continue their hot hitting from yesterday's sweep of Lancaster Bible, which they did, but it wasn't enough to top Abington. The Wildcats lost the first game 7-6 and the second game 7-5.

Game 1:

The Wildcats fell behind early in the game on an RBI single from Abington's Becca Dougherty. The 'Cats would strike back in the top of the 2nd inning with an RBI single from Michaela Costello (Frankfort, N.Y.) to make the score 2-1. Two more Wildcat runs were tacked on by a two run RBI single into right field from Stephanie Smith (Utica, N.Y.) widening the 'Cats lead to 4-1. The tides began to change in the bottom of the 5th when Abington's Gina Cuozzo singled up the middle to drive in two runs to take back the lead. Trailing 7-5, athe Wildcats would start a comeback in the top of the 7th inning with another RBI single from Costello, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.

Kylie Chesebro (Oneida, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss for the Wildcats. The freshman gave up seven runs on 9 hits. Celine Laracuente (Utica, N.Y.) would come into relieve for the Wildcats. The senior gave up one hit and had no strikeouts.

Taylor Hines (Mechanicville, N.Y.) went 2-4 on the day with one RBI and no strikeouts.

Abington's Dougherty went 2-3 on the day and drove in two runs. She also pitched the whole game and had five strikeouts on the day. Cassondra Towle also had a hot bat for the Nitty Lions going 2-4 with two RBIs.

Game 2:

The Wildcats struck first in the second game with an RBI double to left field by Bailee Haddad (Frankfort, N.Y.). Courtney Morton (Whitesboro, N.Y.) would drive in another run off a single to center to make it a 2-0 ballgame. The Lions came back in the bottom of the 1st to tie the game up. In the 3rd inning the Wildcats added another run to reclaim the lead with a 3-2. Abington's Kourtney Schneider got the bats going for the Nitty Lions with a two-run single in the bottom of the second and the lead was theirs from then on. The Wildcats found some life in their bats in the top of the 5th shrinking the deficit to two runs, but it wasn't enough because Abington added another run in the bottom of the 5th to seal the victory.

Courtney Morton went 3-4 driving in 2 runs. Kylie Chesebro was a big part of the Wildcats' offense. The freshman was perfect at the plate going 3-3.

Sydney McEvoy (Middleville, N.Y.) was credited for the loss. She threw the whole game for the Wildcats giving up 7 runs on 8 hits. She recorded one strikeout on the day.

Becca Dougherty continued her dominance at the plate and on the mound for the Nitty Lions. She went 3-3 with one RBI and was credit for the win. Caitlin Brasier took over on the mound for Dougherty allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.

After this weekend the Wildcats are 2-2 in NEAC play. The Wildcats hope to bounce back with their first home doubleheader of the season against Cazenovia this Wednesday. Game one is scheduled for a 3PM start with game two following at 5PM.
