Softball Blanks Penn State Harrisburg during Non-Conference Action at Snowbird Tournament

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The SUNYIT women's softball team blanked Penn State Harrisburg 8-0 in non-conference action Tuesday during day two of the five-day Snowbird Tournament, which is being held in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The Lady Wildcats are now 3-1 overall, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 0-4.

The Wildcats, who broke numerous team records with a 24-3 victory over Southern Vermont earlier in the day, remained hot against Harrisburg with 12 hits while holding the Lions to four.  SUNYIT jumped out to an early lead, putting four runs on the board in the first inning on back-to-back two-run doubles from juniors Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) and Amanda Pratt (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta).  Vedder would drive in two more runs on a single in the second to put SUNYIT up 6-0, and another two runs would come in the fourth to help the Wildcats run-rule Harrisburg after five innings.

Vedder also had a great outing on the mound, pitching a complete game and striking out two batters.  Pratt finished 1-for-3 with three RBI and a sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow with two more contests, taking on Penn College at 9:00 am and Bluefield College at 11:00 am.
